August is National Wellness Month!

I love that August is widely accepted as a time to think about and prioritize your wellbeing. I would prefer wellness be top priority all 12 months of the year, but if August is your time to kick start or revisit your wellness approach, that’s fantastic!

What does wellness really mean and how do you focus on it?

Wellness is NOT one size fits all. There is no single recipe that will work for everyone.

Some people love getting a massage, while others feel anxious and uncomfortable.

Some people are recharged by socializing, while others need plenty of alone time.

Some people love quiet walks outside while others prefer a crowded CrossFit class.

Prioritizing your wellness requires identifying the things that will bring YOU health and happiness, and then (here comes the hard part…) making time and space to do those things.

A few practices worth considering:

  1. Increase your water intake and reduce sugar sweetened beverages.

  2. Find ways to incorporate more fruits and vegetables into your day (smoothies rock)

  3. Set yourself up for successful sleep with a cool, clean, and dark environment. Reduce blue light from screens an hour before bedtime and actually allocate enough hours to get that rest (I’m looking at you my fellow revenge bedtime procrastinators!)

  4. Commit to moving your body more. I don’t mean running a 5k. I’m talking about a short daily walk or 20 minutes of strength training a few days a week.

  5. Set aside 5 minutes a day to practice gratitude. Just breathe and think about absolutely anything, big or small, that you are grateful for. Your potty-training toddler didn’t have an accident today….the air quality was good….your parent or grandparent is still alive….the birds sound beautiful this morning…your husband barely snored last night. Once you start, it gets easier and easier.

  6. Do something that improves your environment. Hang a picture on the wall, get a new plant, declutter a space, etc.

If you need help figuring out your personal recipe for wellness, or your just having trouble making it happen…reach out!
